Chex joined the family on my birthday in 1997. I did not go looking for him-he found us. My husband, Brent, has his own business of installing and repairing window treatments. A gal he did some work for lived in the area where I had heard about a POA for sale. The pony was about two hours away from JPF so Brent asked this gal (who is a horsey gal) to take a look at the POA for us. She took a drive with her son and tried the POA out-her report was that it would not have the temperment to be a lesson pony. She mentioned her pony trip to a friend of hers, Diane D, who owned a Quarter Horse named Chex. Diane D showed Chex in reining and they were a great team together. While in his prmie, Chex came up lame. His owner had him vetted and he went sound. Back to the business of reining he went--until the lameness unfortunately came back. Chex went to the vet again and after treatment and time off he was sound once more. But the question was, could he handle the stress of reining again? Diane D didn't want to chance it so she got ahold of Brent and asked us to come see him. After we all met and agreed Chex would be welcomed into our family-the deal was made. It was on my birthday that we met and brought him home. It was a very sad day for Diane D, but as much as she loved him, she felt it only right to let him go home with us where he could have things a bit easier and stay sound.
Chex has fit right in and has quite a large fan club at JPF. He knows so much and can teach you it all when he knows you're ready to advance to that level of horsemanship.
